ESSAY : Role of Women in Nation Building

Throughout my year in a hybrid role as project assistant on The Albert M. Greenfield Digital Center for the History of Women’s Higher Education and working on the, I have learned how documentation is a way to collaborate on digital projects and create a shared community of knowledge. Working in a consortium like the Tri-Co (Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore) allows for exciting overlap in projects, especially digital ones, when expertise is shared even when subject matter doesn’t quite intersect– as in the case of my working on the project with Richard Freedman which focused on French Renaissance polyphony and on The Albert M. Greenfield Digital Center for the History of Women’s Education researching dorm culture at Bryn Mawr in the 1900s. While working with on the DuChemin project, we explored systematic workflows and tested user personas in order to gauge the scope and interest of users. When beginning the work in the Bryn Mawr Special Collections, I was immediately engaged with questions of audience and considering what angle of research might best apply to large constituency.

Essay on Women Empowerment in India! The subject of empowerment of women has becoming a burning issue all over the world including India …

Women play an essential role in African development, which is why many of the programs supported by Harambee USA Foundation are operated by and for women. Our initiatives aim to help the African nations understand the risks their communities face by not educating girls. The Foundation sees clearly that work with women of all ages has an astonishing impact on cultural change, particularly in developing nations. In the sub-Sahara, women often serve alone as primary educators of their children. The role of women as wives and mothers, primary caregivers and often the sole providers for their families, has a heavy, often negative, inter-generational influence. Harambee USA Foundation is committed to making the African woman’s contribution to African national development not only tangible and long-lasting, but more positive and life-sustaining.

Every fall, this foundation offers scholarships to low-income women age 35 and older who are interested in furthering their education in the business field. The applicants must have goals of helping their communities through education and empowerment of womankind. All applicants must be citizens of the United States. Applications will be accepted now through November 1, 2012.

Mongol women enjoyed, or some would say endured, a vital role in the often times harsh nomadic life. In recent decades, women saw greater equality in education and the workplace. As Mongolia continues to shape its identity in the modern world, this essay examines some of the issues and opportunities facing women today.

Yet ordinary Mongol women probably did not benefit from their vital roles, particularly after the Mongol empire collapsed. They returned to a life of drudgery, with limited, if any, possibilities, for leisure and education and almost no access to proper health care. Qing China’s conquest of Mongolia in the late seventeenth century exacerbated women’s difficulties and indeed generally pauperized the Mongol peoples.

SHORT ESSAY ONDr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam - Rosemary …

Religion has and always will play a large role in the lives of many people around the world. For the people of India, 80 percent of its citizens follow either the religion of Hinduism or are Muslims. This is an important fact to note because these two religions account for more teen pregnancy and the earliest marriages on average than any other country in the world. This trend of teen pregnancy and early marriage is especially prevalent within India’s lower caste system. Based on India’s caste system there are several factors that decide who a woman is sold into marriage with. These factors include the family’s income, location (urban or rural), community, and education. For centuries women have been perceived as items to sell because of this caste system, automatically putting Indian women at a disadvantage in comparison to their male counterparts.

By the late nineteenth, early twentieth centuries, serious challenges to accepted beliefs about gender were mounted in both Japan and China. Although concerns about women’s position had been expressed earlier, the concept of women’s liberation became a major motivating force within the era’s nationalist, reform, and revolution movements. Male nationalists initiated the discussion by arguing that an improvement in the status of women was essential to their country’s acceptance by other technologically advanced nations. A core of educated women in both Japan and China joined the call by speaking and writing in public for the first time. Conservative nationalists and traditionalists in Japan and China at different times reacted by mounting long campaigns against any change in gender roles. Ultimately female activists were labeled unseemly, unfeminine, and too western.

Importance of Girls' Education - Important India

The country of India has some serious issues to deal with when it comes to the issue of gender inequality. It all started back during the period of imperialism when the country was at the mercy of British rule. This ended with India adopting some of the principles of capitalism, but their lack of technology as well as trade issues led the system of capitalism to be ineffective as India went into a serious debt. This led to India developing much slower than countries such as Europe or the United States creating issues in education that led to more men being enrolled in school than women. The political model is not the only reason that India has significant gender inequality issues as the caste system as well as the uneven gender ratio also play a significant roles. Many women of India are sold into marriage at a young age before they can receive an education. These issues are certainly deeply rooted and cannot be changed over night, but they are issues that were created by humans and can certainly be destroyed by them.
