Can war ever be justified Christianity UK
In another mission from May 10-20, 1969, U.S. and ARVN troops fought an intense, uphill battle (literally) for Hill 937, or “Hamburger Hill,” near the Laotian border. The U.S.-ARVN forces succeeded in taking the hill, with significant casualties, but since no territory in the countryside could be permanently retained without sizable forces present, the hill was quietly abandoned on June 5. Two weeks later, military intelligence reported that more than 1,000 North Vietnamese Army troops had moved back into the area. In Washington, Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts asked on the Senate floor, “How can we justify sending our boys against a hill a dozen times, finally taking it, and then withdrawing a week later?”
That said it’s probably better to start assembling the bottom-up social structures necessary to survive what’s to come, right now, than sit on our butts and cheerleading G-Dub to finish his War on the Islamic Red Herring. Eric’s mesh networking is one way of doing so. And Cuba’s agricultural revolution, in which the Western-supported, resource-hungry Green Revolution practices were supplanted by smaller, communitarian, ecologically aware farming practices, is an example of how the dirty commies have triumphed over the cowboy capitalists in this most important of political issues: how best to make use of our dwindling resources.
Can War Ever Be Justified - Essay by Tommycuzz
Yet Lyndon Johnson chose war. In the aftermath of his election, he waited only for the right moment to bomb North Vietnam and to deploy large numbers of U.S. combat troops in the south, judging that such actions must be seen as defensive. The moment came on February 7, 1965, when NLF soldiers attacked Camp Holloway, a small airbase near the city of Pleiku, killing nine Americans and wounding 126, and destroying ten aircraft. Johnson immediately initiated a bombing attack on four pre-selected targets in North Vietnam (Operation Flaming Dart), carried out by 132 U.S. and 22 South Vietnamese planes. A few days later, on February 13, he approved a sustained bombing campaign (Operation Rolling Thunder) against North Vietnam. China, meanwhile, declared on February 15 that it would enter the war if the United States invaded North Vietnam.
For the Vietnamese, the war front was their home front. Tran Thi Gung, a southerner who joined the NLF in 1963 at the age of seventeen, after her father had been killed by the Diem government, told the historian Christian Appy in an interview some forty-five years later:

This line of reasoning is based on the assumption that what makes us more descent than our enemies is what military tactics we use or do not use against them. We are more descent than our enemies in this war because we do not treat women like pieces of property, we do not stone to death our daughters for premarital sex, we do not teach our children that it is noble to strap on a bomb and go sit somewhere that will kill as many civilians as possible by self-imploding. We are morally superior and far more descent than they are because of the type of society we have compared to the one they have created for themselves. Completely external to our military tactics, we are far more descent than this enemy is and if this battle ends up with us having to do whatever it takes to kill them wholesale, we will still have a far way to go to ever being morally inferior to them.
“In every war America has ever fought, our response is political speeches and fictional accounts that present the following self-image: We are a good and descent people. But this time our enemy is special. This enemy does not play by the rules. This enemy is sneaky. So we have to adopt some of his methods in order to defeat him. When the war is over we’ll go back to being descent.”

It was clear that moment had come when, at the 1992 Brit Awards, The KLF were told that they would be sharing the Best British Group award with Simply Red. It was time to take a stand: to do something so shocking, so final that it could never be construed as a prank, but would make them genuine pariahs and outcasts.

I think we’d be way ahead of where we are now if the US abandoned it’s own ideological extremity (which I realize varies a lot over time with administration and culture) and started building economic ties. My favorite pet example is the embargo on Cuba. Where would Cuba be now ideologically if we had been slowly and carefully opening trade relations with them all this time? (With “all this time” meaning since the war or since the Berlin Wall went down, pick one.)

Even the greatest TV shows of the modern era have suffered from bum episodes, plot threads that never led anywhere fruitful, and references that seemed fresh at the time but now come off as distractingly dated.
Can The War Be Justified History Essay.
The Soviets consciously followed the Gramscian prescription; they pursued a war of position, subverting the “leading elements” of society through their agents of influence. (See, for example, Stephen Koch’s ; summary by Koch ) This worked exactly as expected; their memes seeped into Western popular culture and are repeated endlessly in (for example) the products of Hollywood.

With the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution enacted, Johnson had the power to expand the war as he saw fit. His strategy was to increase it in stages, allowing the DRV and NLF to capitulate to U.S. demands at any pause. If they did not, the U.S. would increase the punishment. That fall, Johnson expanded the war in the south without fanfare, increasing U.S. bombing runs, building and expanding air bases, dispatching three additional regiments (about 4,500 soldiers), lifting restrictions on the use of cluster bombs and white phosphorus (napalm was already in use), and expanding the area of “free-fire zones” to encompass larger sections of the countryside, including heavily populated areas. It was still not enough. On October 31, 1964, the NLF used captured American mortars to attack the U.S. air base at Bien Hoa, destroying five B-57 bombers and badly damaging thirteen more; four Americans were killed and thirty wounded.
